Effect of chitosan on the yield enhancement and quality of indica rice

Abstract

|
Yield enhancement and quality of Indica rice was studied by treatment with dilute chitosan(KFRI SL)solution in the range of 100-1000 times. Most chitosan treatments showed effective growth and development of rice, and treatment with 500 times dilute chitosan solution showed 17.6% grain yields above control. There was no difference of rice quality between chitosan treatment and control, but chitosan treatment was evaluated more favorable than control in the organoleptic test of coocked rice. Therefore, it was suggested that chitosan could be applicable to yield enhancement of other rice and its quality improvement.
